Climate-change Project Management:
Agreement on detailed rules governing the implementation of the Kyoto Treaty at the global climate summit in Marrakech and New Delhi paved the way for ratification of the above Treaty.
Emissions rights allocated within the system can be freely traded without any restrictions as to quantity.
Climate-change projects in developing countries may be initiated and generate emissions credits even retrospectively as of the year 2000.
Since March 2003 the CDM-Executive Board accepts project proposals that are submitted by TÜV SÜD certification body “Climate and Energy” for the approval cycle.
With regards to JI-projects, it is likely that inspection/ determination by an independent third party will be required.
In the context of climate change projects, our specialised department “Carbon Management Service” with its certification body “Climate and Energy” provides the following services:
Validation:
Validation is an important step for a project that is to be approved as climate change project. Only projects validated by an accredited third party are entitled to earn emission certificates. As part of the validation process, the client’s monitoring system, designed to register the emission reductions, is examined.
Verification and Certification:
The monitoring system will display the quantity of reductions achieved and is subject to examination by an accredited certifier, who will confirm validity of the figures. This marks the last and most important step of a climate change project. Eventually the project owner receives tradable and valuable certificates. National and international registers will keep an account of the transactions.
Climate neutral events and activities:
Events and activities can be considered as “climate neutral”, when relevant emissions caused by the event or activity are compensated by emission reductions from climate change projects.
Corporate policy on climate change services:
TÜV SÜD does not offer any climate change services other than the validation, verification and certification services as offered by the departement Carbon Management Service. The Certification Body "Climate and Energy" is responsible to monitor and report any potential conflict of interest.
